Single// CANT, Too Late, Too Far.

Imagine taking a house music compilation record outside into blistering hot sun on a bright summer’s day, and then as it begins to play, it starts to melt from the unbelievable heat. The result would be something similar to the new single from CANT, it’s the sort of track that digs its claws into your skin as soon as the opening drumbeat kicks in, and doesn’t let go until its bizarre, draining outro.
As Grizzly Bear’s Chris Taylor’s vocals are cued over the electronic jungle sounding instrumentation, his voice becomes trippy and submerged in the track’s back beat, sounding more like a physical instrument than a common voice box. Then out of nowhere a synthesizer is introduced, taking the array of weird and wonderful on a vivid journey through the history of dance music.
A very strange track that requires a good few listens until it becomes clear that it is, infact, just a song rather than an unearthly hallucogenic dream. Either way a great new style from Chris Taylor’s side project, one to look out for.

Single// Tony Bennet & Amy Winehouse, Body & Soul.

After Amy Winehouse’s devastating death in July, fans from across the universe flocked to her Camden home to show their adoration whilst support was shown on a global level. Therefore it was inevitable that a tribute single would be released for the late singer-songwriter.
Although Body & Soul was evidently recorded prior to Winehouse’s untimely death, to be placed onto legendary pop singer; Tony Bennet’s “Duets II” album. It has, nonetheless, been timed perfectly in order to monument her career. Containing a stunning harmonisation between both artists’ flawlessly complimenting voices under a dreamily satisfying instrumentation.
A fitting tribute to a great artist, a perfect end to an outstanding music career, overlooking the lavish lifestyle and tabloid repugnance, Amy Winehouse is a superb talent who will be greatly missed from the popular music scene.

Single// Ryan Adams, Lucky Now.

“Lucky Now” is the lead single to alternative country singer; Ryan Adams’ forthcoming comeback album. Providing a distinct melancholia as Adams’ lyrics of loss and sadness are accompanied by a simple yet soothing acoustic guitar.
Written with the insight of a song for Adams’ band mate; Chris Feinstein, as a touching tribute, subsequent to his death in 2009. Yet the bridge prior to the last verse rises in tempo to bring the track to its climax with a soft piano.
An incredible emotion stirring track from Ryan Adams’ 13th studio LP, it’s great to have him back.
