Single// Blink 182 - After Midnight

There can be absolutely no denying that Blink 182 were one of the defining alternative bands of the 21st Century’s first decade. Securing outstanding albums such as – Enema Of The State and Take Off Your Pants and Jacket to their names. As well as their latest, comeback, album; Neighbourhoods, which received a varied critical reception.

After Midnight is the second single release from the album in question, revering back to the slower sound of their previous, eponymous album, as opposed to the pulsating pop-punk of their earlier material. Led by Travis Baker’s whip-crack-away drum technique that invites the odd; piercing power chord. Developing into a mellow laid back number, implementing a gentle vocal style that reminisces teenage memories of, essentially, partying too hard, too often.

Although the band’s new material doesn’t employ the raw pop-punk anthemia of tracks such as All The Small Things or The Rock Show, it stays within reaching distance to secure a comforting familiarity.

Jonathan Hatchman.
